Instructions for Setting up Travel Information on Your Garmin Device

It is advisable to first remove old versions of the file before installing an update.

Garmin Devices that do not require an SD card

  1. Download the "POI Loader" program from here.
  2. Double-click on the POI Loader program and follow the instructions to install it.
  3. Download the Catskills GPS points (CatskillsGarmin.zip) by clicking here. Unzip the files into a folder on your hard drive that you will use specifically for loading customized locations onto your GPS. (If you're already using customized locations from another source, use the same folder.)
  4. Connect the Garmin unit to your computer.
  5. If the POI Loader program doesn't start automatically, start the program by clicking Start -> Programs -> Garmin -> POI Loader. Click Next, be sure your Garmin unit is displayed, click Next again, click Browse to find and select the folder where you downloaded the Catskills GPS points, then click OK.
  6. Click Next, be sure your Garmin unit is displayed, click Next again, click Browse to find and select the folder where you downloaded the Catskills GPS points, then click OK.
  7. Leave the other settings as is, and click Next.
  8. You should receive a "Congratulations!" message. Click Finish to exit the program.

Garmin Devices that require an SD card

  1. Download the "POI Loader" program from here.
  2. Double-click on the POI Loader program and follow the instructions to install it.
  3. Download the Catskills GPS points (CatskillsGarmin.zip) by clicking here. Unzip the files into a folder on your hard drive that you will use specifically for loading customized locations onto your GPS. (If you're already using customized locations from another source, use the same folder.)
  4. Insert the SD card into a card reader on your computer.
  5. If it has not been previously created, make sure to create a Garmin directory on the drive that contains the card.
  6. If it has not been previously created, make sure to create a POI directory within the directory created above. When done correctly there should be a \Garmin\POI directory on the card.
  7. Start the POI Loader program by clicking Start -> Programs -> Garmin -> POI Loader.
  8. Select Custom Folder (Advanced) then Click Next.
  9. Click Browse to find and select the folder created above (\Garmin\POI), click OK then click Next again.
  10. Click Browse to find and select the folder where you downloaded the Catskills GPS points, then click OK.
  11. Leave the other settings as is, and click Next.
  12. You should receive a "Congratulations!" message. Click Finish to exit the program.
